Why choose organic cotton for your baby?

Why choose organic cotton for your baby?

We all want what is best for our precious baby, by choosing organic cotton baby clothes, you are giving your baby a kind and safe option.

When I was researching the best fabrics to use for our products, I was amazed at how many options were out there and it can be very confusing!

As well as different fabrics there are the types of dyes, and other toxic chemicals used that potentially can make clothing toxic.

Baby clothes made using other fabrics can be home to harsh chemicals and unsafe toxins.

Skin is your bodies largest organ and everything you put on it gets absorbed into your bloodstream, this is a huge reason why choosing organic cotton for your baby really is the best and safest option.

Benefits of choosing organic cotton for your baby

There are many sites, blogs and articles available with in depth information on the benefits of organic cotton.  I thought I would just summarise the main benefits to save you trawling through.

So, the benefits of choosing organic cotton for you baby are:

  • Organic cotton is gentle and kind to baby's skin
  • The material is soft and free from chemicals
  • There is less chance of your baby developing skin conditions such as eczema, dermatitis and skin allergies
  • As organic cotton always keeps its natural state, it makes it mould resistant and antimicrobial too

And the list goes on……..

  • Babies can be messy, so it's important to choose fabrics that can withstand frequent washing and wear. High-quality cotton or bamboo fabrics are usually the best choices. Organic cotton is amongst the most durable fabrics, wrinkle-free and requires less tedious care.

  • The fabric is also very absorbent, soft and breathable. Organic cotton can transfer moisture away from the skin at a higher rate when compared to synthetic fabrics. This is great during summers as children sweat. Better levels of aeration also ensure that the child is dry, cool and comfortable.
  • Organic cotton is also odour-free, since the fabric doesn’t hold on to sweat, odour build up ceases
  • Organic cotton clothing can last a long time despite multiple wear and tear

What is GOTS certified – a brief explanation

The most common certification in the baby fabric category is GOTS.

The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is the worldwide leading textile processing standard for organic fibres, including ecological and social criteria.

For a fabric to be GOTS certified (Global Organic Textile Standard) they must meet specific processing standards (95% of fibres used must be certified as organic), as well as meeting an ecological (not using harmful chemicals) and social criteria (working conditions must be safe and hygienic).

Choosing the best materials for your baby

Parenthood is all about choosing what is best for your baby, these are all personal decisions for parents.

When choosing the best fabrics to use there is a wide variety of options and parents need to consider a few things before choosing what is the best material for baby clothes and bedding for their children.

And why stop at baby clothes, baby cotton muslins and baby muslin blankets are constantly being used for your baby. Organic cotton will offer you peace of mind.

Look for fabrics that are soft and gentle on a baby's delicate skin. Cotton, bamboo, and muslin are all great options. I feel another blog coming on!

As BettyBugg expands, I will ensure to only offer natural fabrics that are kind and safe for your baby, this may not always be organic cotton as I believe there are other great options available.

I believe buying clothes and gifts for babies should be a lovely experience! That’s why I offer products I am proud of.
